Growing your own weed is fun, but smoking your own weed is a lot more fun. These 10 useful tips will teach you how to make buds grow faster so you can smoke sooner!
1. Grow indoors
Growing weed outdoors is cheap and easy, but it’s slow because your plants are dependent on sunlight and the weather. Growing indoors speeds up grow times because you can give your plants the perfect lighting, temperature and humidity to maximize growth. Indoor plants are also less prone to diseases and don’t have to worry about frost, heat or insects. The more healthy your plants are, the faster they’ll grow!

2. Prune your weed plants
Your weed plants use energy to grow leaves and stems as well as buds. During the flowering stage you want all the energy of your plants dedicated to growing big, sticky buds. Pruning your plants to remove extra stems and dry, yellow or dying leaves means more energy is available for growing buds.
3. Grow Indica strains
You can grow buds faster by growing indica dominant strains. Indica strains generally have a shorter flowering time than sativa strains and also tend to produce a higher yield. For example, Northern Lights is a 95% indica strain that finishes flowering in around 6 to 8 weeks and can yield up to 100 grams per plant!
4. Use the best nutrients for weed
A big part of learning how to make buds grow faster is knowing what nutrients to give your plants and when. Your weed plants need 3 key nutrients to survive.
- Nitrogen (N) – Needed for growing leaves and stems during the vegetative stage.
- Phosphorous (P) – Needed to grow lots of buds during the flowering stage.
- Potassium (K) – Needed to grow bigger, fatter buds during the flowering stage.
Your plants also need different amounts of N, P and K during the different stages of growth. For example, your plants shouldn’t be getting much Nitrogen during the flowering stage so all their energy is diverted to growing buds.

5. Make sure your humidity and temperature are correct
Your plants need different levels of humidity during the different growth stages to grow as fast as they can.
- The ideal temperature for your weed is 70 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit (21 – 27 degrees Celsius).
- Clones – ideal relative humidity is 70 – 80%
- Seedlings – ideal relative humidity is 65 – 70%.
- Vegetative stage – ideal relative humidity is 40 – 70%.
- Flowering stage – ideal relative humidity is 30 – 50%.

6. Give your plants 24 hours light during the vegetative stage
Even though this list is focused on how to make buds grow faster, this tip will definitely make your plants grow faster and get you buds sooner.
During the vegetative stage your plants will take as much sunlight as they can get to grow more leaves and stems. If you’re growing weed indoors, this means you can switch your grow lights on for up to 24 hours a day and halve the time your plants need to stay in the vegetative stage before they switch to flowering.
7. Trigger the flowering stage sooner
If you’re growing indoors you can trigger the flowering stage by changing your lighting schedule to 12 hours light followed by 12 hours darkness. This mimics nature, where flowering is triggered by the days and nights becoming equal length as winter approaches. When you think your plants are big enough or you get sick of waiting, just change your lighting schedule and start budding!
You can also speed up outdoor flowering by growing with an autoflowering weed strain. Autoflowering strains start flowering when the plant reaches a certain maturity and don’t depend on the length of day and night.

8. Use high quality seeds bred for fast budding
The genetics of the seeds you choose is one of the most important factors when thinking about how to make buds grow faster. Expert breeders have engineered hybrid strains of weed that can finish flowering in as little as 6 weeks!
There are lots of places to get high quality seeds online. We recommend:
9. Grow from clones instead of seeds
When you grow weed from clones, you’re starting out with an established plant which means you have to wait less time before harvesting.
10. Use a hydroponic setup to grow
Using a hydroponics setup allows you to grow your buds faster because you can give your plants the exact nutrients they need to thrive. Indoor plants in general are also less prone to disease and don’t need to worry about animals, insects or other pests. Healthy weed plants grow faster buds!
